I read one of her books many years ago- One Pair of Feet - about her nursing experiences & I remember enjoying that. It was a grotty little penguin I think & not a lovely Persephone edition. 🙂Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820925595506920754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-927098956199060247.post-35159220271028525722020-07-13T21:16:32.856-07:002020-07-13T21:16:32.856-07:00Thanks for the comment Jane! So I will be able to compare it to this one and see if there are any similar elements. I wish I knew how to help but I pretty much only know how to turn the laptop on and off.

I have currently nine Persephone editions on my shelf but I've not yet indulged in their three book offer...however I do like to think about it from time to time and what three titles I would chose. They are so beautifully put together, I agree. I will definitely buy more Dorothy Whipple titles from them since I think they are the only publisher now of her books and I do have a soft spot for her writing. Besides, there is nothing quite so exciting as getting book mail!

The Winds of Heaven is pretty depressing but stick with it, the end is worth it. :DRuthiellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871834571645928819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-927098956199060247.post-48602311859164157072020-07-06T13:41:11.757-07:002020-07-06T13:41:11.757-07:00Thanks for the comment jenclair! I was very admiring of your ingenuity when you selected this for the Classics Challenge, as I was struggling to come up with a nature title myself.
I have the same edition as you (Persphone) but must admit I've dodged this one, because the plot sounded so depressing -- unwanted old mom & selfish daughters -- but I do suspect that I'll get to it sooner or, realistically, later.
I love Persphone books although I'm much better at collecting rather than reading them. The editions are just so much fun, with the bookmarks and clever end papers, and the selected titles are quite intriguing. During the "lockdown" last spring, in a particularly blue mood, I treated myself to three new Persphones (there's a price break for three) and had a wonderful few hours picking them out.
I can't wait to read more of your reviews -- they're always a high spot for me. (Alas, I do sometimes have computer problems accessing your blog).
